Otis Technology Suppressor Cleaning Kit

With suppressors becoming more and more common and so many new users coming into the fold, let’s talk a little about maintenance. Let’s face it, suppressors can get filthy. They’re capturing the gases and crud that would normally be expelled out the end of your barrel. That stuff builds up and needs to be cleaned out on occasion. This is where a proper suppressor cleaning kit comes in handy.

Some people find cleaning their guns and tools cathartic and relaxing. I am not one of those people. I know it needs to be done. However, I put it off and then grudgingly do it when I have to. When I do, I’ll take advantage of anything that makes that task easier, and the Otis Technology Suppressor Cleaning Kit is one of those things. I had a chance to check it out firsthand at the Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous in Wyoming last month.

The Suppressor Cleaning Kit

While you can certainly buy components separately, the Otis Suppressor Cleaning Kit gives you everything you need in one package. They suggest a recommended cleaning interval of every 350-500 rounds for rimfire suppressors. For centerfire suppressors, they bump that up to every 1,000-2,000 rounds. I’m a little behind that cleaning curve on cleaning my rimfire suppressors for sure.

The kit comes with a 16-ounce bottle of Suppressor Cleaner Concentrate, a biodegradable, non-toxic, non-flammable, and non-hazardous formula. Additionally, it has a bottle of Shooter’s Choice FP-10 Lubricant Elite CLP, a microfiber cloth, and nitrile gloves. Finally, you have a bronze, a nylon, and a stainless-steel brush, as well as a dedicated nylon baffle-cleaning brush. The tube the kit comes in also acts as a soaking container.

Cleaning Process

Cleaning your suppressor with the Otis kit is pretty simple. Empty out your tube and set aside the bottle of Suppressor Cleaning Concentrate. Then mix the concentrate with warm or hot water in a one-to-one ratio. Thus, the 16-ounce bottle is enough for 32 ounces of cleaning solution. Basically, mix enough so that your suppressor is fully submerged in the tube.

Next, disassemble your suppressor and drop it into the solution-filled tube. Then, let the parts soak for 24 to 48 hours. Once it’s soaked long enough, remove your parts and scrub with the appropriate brushes to clean off any fouling that hasn’t come off with just the solution. Otis recommends wearing the gloves throughout this process and eye protection to keep from splashing the solution in your eyes.

Once you’re happy with how clean your parts are, dry them off with the included cloth, and lube them up with the included CLP oil and reassemble. That’s it. Otis has a couple of good videos on their website that walk you through the process in greater detail.

Replacement solution is available in either 16-ounce bottles or 1-gallon jugs from Otis on their website. However, you can actually reuse the solution too if you strain out any large particulates and crud with something like a coffee filter.

A One-Stop Cleaning Solution

You don’t need a kit like this to clean your suppressor, but this does make things a lot easier. And I’m all about easy when it comes to cleaning. It’s reasonably priced, too. If you’re investing in a suppressor, you may as well buy the right tools to keep it running in optimal condition.
