Tasmanian Tiger’s Modular Grab Pack 30 is All-In-One Perfection

New on the market is Tasmanian Tiger’s Modular Grab Pack 30. This Beefy backpack is an ideal candidate to become your 72-hour survival bag or home emergency kit. It offers roomy interior compartments, multiple pockets and sleeves, and three carry options when things go bad and minutes count.

A bugout bag must hold all your essential gear and be tough enough to withstand the demands of both urban and rural environments. With my own Grab Pack 30 on my back, I determined if it was bugout-ready or just a bugout bust.

Hefty Impression

Out of the box, the TT Modular Grab Pack 30 was on the larger side of packs, though not cumbersome. There’s a fine line when choosing a bugout-style bag.

On one hand, you want a pack large enough to fit all your emergency essentials. On the other hand, it can’t be so hefty that it impedes your mobility or is difficult to carry. This pack found that sweet spot between these two extremes. The true test will be when it’s fully loaded with gear.

No Doubt About Durability

When building your bugout bag, you’re going to fill it to near capacity. Because of this, strain will be put on the material and frame. This is where pack durability comes into play.

The TT Modular Grab Pack 30, during my look over, and from the specs, takes durability very seriously. The outer shell is constructed of CORDURA 700 Den fabric, with no noticeable fraying or weak seams. CORDURA fabrics are resistant to tears and abrasions, offer water repellency, and are long-lasting.

YKK zippers were used throughout the pack, which are known universally for setting impeccable quality standards and performance in the field. Additionally, Woojin Plastic supplied the buckles and small hardware for this pack, which again set high-quality standards.

A Pack Load of Features

One thing I noticed immediately while examining this pack was its sheer number of amenities. I started at the surface level, and as I dug deeper, the features increased considerably. The pack has the ability to unzip in the center to a full 180-degree clamshell style. This exposes two sections, each with loads of Velcro material.

Zippered compartments complemented these sections, with one offering a translucent material for quick identification. In the front compartment, there are four Velcro-attached zippered pouches with see-through lids. It also offers (ready for this) two MOLLE rows in the rear compartment, hanging loops, a daisy chain front, height-adjustable chest belt, detachable shoulder straps, a secondary closure feature, and Velcro patch areas.

Its offerings don’t end there, as it’s equipped with a Y2 carrying system and a reversible rain cover with marker system.

Comfortable Carry Loaded?

When bugging out, you need to move quickly and efficiently. Being bogged down can only increase your chances of failure during a crisis. So, I loaded the TT Modular Grab Pack 30 with a variety of gear of varying weights to simulate a fully functional bugout bag.

The pack offers three carry options, which is unique among many packs I’ve tested in the past. You can haul it by a top handle, either side handle, or on your back. All handles were thick and solid to grab. This allowed me a firm and secure grip for one-arm carry.

On my back, there was no question that this was a well-balanced backpack. With the shoulder and waist straps secured, there was no shifting or wobbling, even when I moved about quickly on uneven surfaces. Its Y2-System allowed me to make adjustments to create the perfect fit for my body.

Year After Year Pack

Though ideal as a bugout bag, the TT Modular Grab Pack 30 can be used for just about any travel requirement. You won’t have to worry about it holding up to your urban needs, as it’s built for hardcore outdoor use.

The Grab Pack 30 comes in four color options (black, olive, coyote, and multicam) with a price point starting at $449.00. Though this is at the higher end of the scale for packs, rest assured, it may be the only pack you’ll need for decades.

One thing I would recommend to the consumer is to get fully acquainted with the pack prior to use. It can definitely be a situation of feature overload and may overwhelm a person at first. However, once you know your way around the pack, the more comfortable you will be with it, and better able to utilize it to its fullest.
