Vortex’s Vanquish Binoculars Bring Nature Front and Center

Although the human eye is remarkable, it does have its limitations in seeing extended distances and clarity. Because of this, you’ll need some help from the Vanquish binoculars from Vortex. This compact binocular offers all the “just right” features you need from a casual viewing magnifier. With my trip into the woods, I found out for myself that its triple-threat of compactness, power, and range of vision was the epitome of excellence.

The Boxed Presentation

When my sample arrived, I marveled at the compact size of the box itself. I already knew these binoculars were on the smaller size, and the box confirmed that fact. Inside, I was treated to several added accessories aside from the Vanquish binoculars themselves.

There was a rain guard eyepiece cover, a neck strap for easy carrying, a lens cloth, and an impressive carrying case. The case was exceptionally well-made with heavy fabric, a solid buckle, and a belt loop for easy carrying. A small instruction pamphlet was also included for quick reference about the Vanquish’s operation and features.

Examining its Vast Amenities

You wouldn’t guess that such a compact unit would house so many useful amenities, but it truly does. Starting with the optics, every glass surface exposed to the air is fully treated with an anti-reflective coating. That means greater transmission of light and, in turn, clearer images.

The eyecups are adjustable and are equally comfortable whether you use eyeglasses or not. A center adjustment wheel adjusts both barrels simultaneously for faster focus. As for its outer body, the Vanquish features a waterproof shell, rubber armor for superior gripping, and a fog-proof and shockproof casing that can handle the rigors of the outdoors.

It appeared these binoculars had precision optics encased within an ultra-tough body. That’s a winning combination when you’re at the mercy of Mother Nature herself.

In-The-Field Operation

I had multiple people, aside from myself, test the Vanquish Binoculars against the foliage and waterways. I wanted everyone to not only experience the magnification and viewing quality (more on this later), but also the ease of use, while in the field.

It’s relatively simple to read the manual and make adjustments at home, sitting on your couch. It’s a different story under the sun while traversing outdoor terrain. The binoculars, being as compact as they are, fit amazingly well in everyone’s hands. They weren’t heavy or cumbersome, just very easy to hold and manipulate even while on the move.

Additionally, the textured portions of the body gave added grip. Adjustments were no problem with the centrally located wheel. A few partial turns were all it took to adjust as needed.

Picture Perfect View

All the features in the world are meaningless unless the view through the binoculars is clear and crisp. At about 100 yards, I can say it felt like the objects were only a few feet away from the user. It was that clear. We viewed both inactive subjects, such as foliage and waterways, and live animals, such as birds and reptiles.

The colors were vibrant, and focusing on the objects was near instantaneous. It also was easy to track the animals’ movements. The image didn’t bounce about with my own motion, something I highly disliked from binoculars that I’ve used in the past. The viewing stability was top-notch. The twist-up eyecups provided long-term comfort during our forty-five-minute viewing session.

Seeing is Believing

The phrase, “don’t believe everything you see,” wasn’t directed at these outstanding binoculars. You definitely need to get a first-hand look to sincerely appreciate both its construction and magnification capabilities. Also, don’t be deceived by its stout stature. Vortex packs a lot of goodness into the Vanquish’s small footprint, which comes through with each and every viewing.

At $159.99, you get a multipurpose binocular that can stand up to rugged outdoor use. That’s a huge win in my book.
