Second Call Defense

Last week we talked about Claude Werner, who asks us what we are willing to kill for? What we’re willing to die for?  What we are willing to change our life for? I want to ask you this, if you are willing to defend your family from predators, danger, and put yourself in harms way, why would you leave yourself and them to financial ruin. You should want to protect them and yourself on all fronts. Litigation and court cost can reach 10’s of thousands of dollars if not more. We implore you to go the extra step and protect yourself.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. http://welikeshooting.com/scd

where we talk about stuff that we have, want and need!

Tonight we are going to do We Like Shooting Theater sponsored by Manticore Arms. Where we re-enact movie scenes, our style. Tonight we will perform a scene from A FEW GOOD MEN.  Col. Jessep will be played by Jeremy, Kaffee will be played by Aaron, Judge Randolph will be played by Shawn.  Savage will the amazing supporting role of Capt. Jack Ross

Kaffee:I have just one more question before I call Airmen O’Malley and Rodriguez.  If you gave an order that Santiago wasn’t to be touched… and your orders are always followed… then why would Santiago be in danger? Why would it be necessary to transfer him off the base?

Col. Jessep: Santiago was a substandard Marine. He was being transferred–

Kaffee: – That’s not what you said!  You said he was being transferred because he was in grave danger. I said, ”Grave danger?”   You said, ”Is there any other kind?”

Col. Jessep: I recall what I said.

Kaffee:  I can have it read back to you.

Col. Jessep: I know what I said! I don’t have to have it read back to me.

Kaffee: Then why the two orders? Colonel?

Col. Jessep: Sometimes men take matters into their own hands.

Kaffee: You’ve made it clear that your men never take matters into their own hands.

Your men follow orders, or people die. So Santiago shouldn’t have been in danger, should he?

Col. Jessep: – You snotty little bastard. – I’d like to ask for a recess.

Kaffee: – I’d like an answer to the question.

Judge Randolph– The court will wait for an answer.

Kaffee: If Lieutenant Kendrick gave an order… that Santiago wasn’t to be touched… then why did he have to be transferred? Lieutenant Kendrick ordered the Code Red because that’s what you told him to do!

Capt. Jack Ross – Object!

Kaffee: – And then you cut these guys loose!

Judge Randolph– I’ll hold you in contempt.

Kaffee: – You doctored the logbook!

Capt. Jack Ross – Damn it, Kaffee!

Judge Randolph Consider yourself in contempt.

Kaffee: Colonel Jessup, did you order the Code Red?

Judge Randolph– You don’t have to answer that.

Col. Jessep:- I’ll answer the question.  You want answers?

Kaffee: – I think I’m entitled!

Col. Jessep: You want answers?

Kaffee: – I want the truth!

Col. Jessep:You can’t handle the truth!

Son, we live in a world

that has walls…

and those walls have to be guarded

by men with guns.

Who’s gonna do it? You?

I would rather you just said thank you

and went on your way.

Otherwise, I suggest you

pick up a weapon and stand a post.

Either way, I don’t give a damn

what you think you are entitled to!

Kaffee: Did you order the Code Red?

Col. Jessep:- I did the job–

Kaffee: – Did you order the Code Red?

Col. Jessep: You’re goddamned right I did!

More Top 10 Youtube Gun Channels

While the last Top 10 covered the best of the old and some of the new YouTube channels, this list focuses in on some other awesome folks who have grown very quickly because they are just so damn good.

  1. Hank Strange: The top spot on this list goes to a good friend of We Like Shooting; the Strangeness, Stranginator, Strangeasaurus Rekt! Is it nepotism? Maybe. Sycophancy? Most likely. Honestly, Hank and his wife, Lola, have put together a powerhouse of a YouTube channel that covers everything, everywhere, all the time when it comes to new and cool guns (especially from Kel-Tec). With his iconic mohawk and stylistic attitude and delivery, this is one of my favorite youtube channels.
  2. Forgotten Weapons: Ian and Karl are a powerhouse team who have access to some of the most rare and interesting weapons you will ever see. While channels like LifeSizePotato will specialize in some rare and expensive handguns, The Forgotten Weapons team travels to auctions all around the US, finding one of a kind guns that range from pistols to rifles and cannons. They explain the mechanics and history as well as give exciting competition demonstrations of them working in action.
  3. The Ammo Channel: This guy is the alchemist of guns. Not only does he reload and test all kinds of ammunition types against things like steel, fruit, ballistic gel, but he also has an extensive knowledge of machining. His most recent project is re-welding and re-building a belt-fed semi-auto 7.62x54r machine gun and the process has been amazing. For anyone who is a gear head, this is the channel you should be watching.
  4. EnglishShooting: I’m putting this guy in the #4 slot because someone has to throw the Brits a bone when it comes to guns and it might as well be me. Though this channel focuses on laws and shooting sports in the UK, it’s more than entertaining for us across the pond. EnglishShooting does an excellent job explaining the shooting culture in the land that gun rights forgot and he breaks down the politics to encourage new shooters in the Isles to start on their journey towards gun ownership.
  5. Mrgunsngear: MrGnG is an extremely experienced op8r and is one of the most prolific YouTube gun and gear reviewers, you certainly can’t complain about that. With 2-3 videos per week, you will always have something fun to watch. He has a military background and an extensive knowledge of just about every firearm there is. He probably owns every firearm there is as well.
  6. MattV2099: Are you Operator as fuck? No, you’re not, because you’re not MattV2099. Operating operationally in operations with 600 round clipazines and abusing the hell out of his poor glock and AK’s, MattV will shove any kind of food or liquid substance into every crack and crevice of a gun and shoot it to see if it will work. His 360 no scopes are always on target, and he never holds back when giving his opinions on the awesomeness or shittiness of guns.
  7. Fireman1291: Let’s be honest, he’s only here because he complained about not being on the last list. Truthfully, Fireman does extensive qualitative review on everything NFA. From full auto’s to SBR’s/SBS’s and every silencer in existence, Fireman has hundreds of videos covering just about every NFA product you can think of. It’s very informative to watch him compare the effects of several different pistols using the same can’s and whether they are run dry or wet.
  8. CarniK Con: Hands down, flat out, the absolute funniest gun related channel on YouTube. To say his videos are legendary is an understatement of epic proportions. Bringing an amazing amount of wit and talent to his gun reviews and comparisons, Dugan Ashley and his team will have you laughing your ass off and ‘Hold an AK’ is a music video that will give you feels you can’t understand. Unfortunately, Dugan was diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) and has had to end his time on YouTube due to his complications. As short lived as the channel is, the videos are timeless.
  9. Taofladermaus: Clearly, the oldest of the newish YouTube channels, Tao has some of the best slow motion gun related videos. With multiple slow motion cameras, Tao is able to capture the action from multiple angles, be it a wax shotshell, a steel dart shot shell, a roll of dimes shot shell, silly putty shot shell, or anything else that he can squeeze in a shotgun (That poor giant gummy bear…). Some of his most memorable videos involve using a propane torch to heat test tubes filled up with various liquids or playing with extremely dangerous substances, such as mercury, in a controlled environment of course.
  10. Royal Nonesuch: I think it’s well known that I am what is known as ‘bubba’ when it comes to guns, Nonesuch takes the idea of bubba, cuts it, welds it, and shoots it with reckless abandon. While this guy is just a kid, his fascination with and construction of home built shotguns of every possible kind is downright impressive. Though often flimsily constructed, and usually dangerously so, his creations are functional and always entertaining to watch.

Spartan Blades: CQB Tool

Just outside the back gates of the US Army’s Fort Bragg, home of the fabled “Green Berets”, you will find the sleepy little North Carolina town of Southern Pines. Like every small town in America, their economy is fueled by small “Mom and Pop” stores and restaurants located off the main street running its center. Last fall, I had the opportunity to return to the Tar Heel state for business and discovered this small town was actually the home base of operations for a very well-known knife company, Spartan Blades. This veteran owned business is ran by two retired Army Special Operations snipers, who took their knowledge of war fighting to the work bench in creating some of the best knives you will ever own.

E7Q66HYQWYKst_Ovn-Hc9cQv2Taxpg4Thex3bblIOwA

After touring their office and getting to know the staff, I was fortunate enough in the following months to try out a blade I have been admiring for close to a year now, the CQB Tool. To begin with, this isn’t your standard knife. While at first glance, this looks like a diminutive one piece dagger with a small, odd loop on the bottom, it’s actually become one of my favorite items from Spartan Blades.

CcwzRvsxsT8TKEI3h6n6j6z5SHDa6nCjxuTZ-50fJPQ,ZLr4VNzB3kMPwZF_X2-vISYQu3DLktop6d4JsixrHLc

THINK ABOUT THIS: When all hell breaks loose and the enemy is on top of you in a struggle for your life, the large combat knife still in its sheath on your hip or the .45 ACP tucked into your waist band does absolutely NO GOOD! The CQB Tool is specifically designed to be quietly tucked away behind other items out of sight with the easy to deploy loop ever at the ready to be grabbed and put to use. Its sole design purpose is for the Police Officer, soldier, or innocent civilian being attacked to get the dirt bag OFF OF YOU!! With an optional aluminum training version that is blunt tipped and unsharpened, one can train to put the tool to great use in grappling situations before transitioning to a primary weapon.

Measuring almost 7 inches overall and sporting a 2 7/8 inch double edge, this blade is a razor sharp stiletto ready to penetrate anything in its path to ensure its user’s survival in a close quarters fight. The ringed one piece construction offers a no frills, easily accessible force option that is made to be comfortably retained during a conflict. The factory applied SpartaCoat allows the Flat Dark Earth tool and it’s coyote colored kydex sheath to blend seamlessly into the rest of your gear without drawing much attention. Regardless of what knife I currently run with my training kit, I am never without a CQB Tool since testing the sample sent by Spartan Blades.

UT-x-hijNEzSq8-8P12uxbk8HftxwC8RKfgzfyiD7_Q

With an average cost of around $160, there are tons of other cheaper knife options on the market but none more trusted than Spartan Blades when my life depends on it. Saving money does you no good when you’re dead! Once you handle a CQB Tool for yourself, you will have to have one for yourself. Check out the CQB Tool and the rest of the great Spartan Blades at www.spartanbladesusa.com today.

…Started up on his six. When he pulled through the clouds, then I moved in above him.

(The rest of the WLS team stifles laughs)

CHARLIE

Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?

MAVERICK

Because I was inverted.

ICE MAN

Coughs/Says “Bullshit” at same time.

GOOSE

No, he was man, it was a really great move — he was inverted…

CHARLIE

You were in a 4G, inverted dive with a MiG 28?

MAVERICK

Yes ma’am.

CHARLIE

At what range ?

MAVERICK

Oh – about Two meters?

GOOSE

Well, it was actually about one and a half, I think, it was one and a half. He was right there, I have a great Polaroid of it.  It must be One and a half…

CHARLIE

Lieutenant…  What were you doing there?

GOOSE

Communicating.

MAVERICK

Communicating, keeping up international relations. I was, uh, you know, giving him the bird?

GOOSE

You know. The finger. (While flipping off camera.)

CHARLIE

Yes, I. know. the. finger, Goose.

GOOSE

I’m sorry, I hate it when it does that… Sorry.

CHARLIE

So, you’re the one?

MAVERICK

Yes ma’am!

Second Call Defense

http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/story/23983489/audio-911-call-made-by-theodore-wafer-after-he-shot-

Tonights story comes out of Detroit. A man calls 911 to report that he just shot someone on his front porch.

Wafer says: “Uh yes… I just shot somebody on my front porch. with a shotgun, banging on my door.” Wafer gives his address and ends the call by saying “thank you” and hanging up, even as police dispatch continued.

He was charged with second degree murder. Now what?

where we talk about stuff that we have, want and need!

Tonight we are going to do We Like Shooting Theater sponsored by Manticore Arms. Where we re-enact movie scenes, our style. Tonight we will perform a scene from Full Metal Jacket, Aaron will be playing Private Pyle and Lil will play the part of Gunny Hartman.  The rest of the WLS team will be playing the other recruits in the platoon.

HARTMAN:
Jesus H. Christ! Private Pyle, why is your footlocker unlocked?

PYLE:
Sir, I don’t know, sir!

HARTMAN:
Private Pyle, if there is one thing in this world that I hate, it is an unlocked footlocker! You know that, don’t you?

PYLE:
Sir, yes, sir!

HARTMAN:
If it wasn’t for jerks like you, there wouldn’t be any thievery in this world, would there?

PYLE:
Sir, no, sir!

HARTMAN:
Get down!

PYLE steps down, from the footlocker. HARTMAN flips open the lid with a bang and begins rummaging through the box.

HARTMAN:
Well, now .. . let’s just see if there’s anything missing!

HARTMAN freezes. He reaches down and slowly picks up a jelly doughnut, holding it in disgust at arm’s length with his fingertips.

HARTMAN:
Holy Jesus! What is that? What is that, Private Pyle?!

PYLE:
Sir, a jelly doughnut, sir!

HARTMAN:
A jelly doughnut?!

PYLE:
Sir, yes, sir!

HARTMAN:
How did it get here?

PYLE:
Sir, I took it from the mess hall, sir!

HARTMAN:
Is chow allowed in the barracks, Private Pyle?

PYLE:
Sir, no, sir!

HARTMAN:
Are you allowed to eat jelly doughnuts, Private Pyle?

PYLE:
Sir, no, sir!

HARTMAN:
And why not, Private Pyle?

PYLE:
Sir, because I’m too heavy, sir!

HARTMAN:
Because you are a disgusting fatbody, Private Pyle!

PYLE:
Sir, yes, sir!

HARTMAN:
Then why did you hide a jelly doughnut in your footlocker, Private Pyle?

PYLE:
Sir, because I was hungry, sir!

HARTMAN:
Because you were hungry?

Holding out the jelly doughnut, HARTMAN walks down the row of recruits still standing with their arms outstretched.

HARTMAN:
Private Pyle has dishonored himself and dishonored the platoon! I have tried to help him, but I have failed! I have failed because you have not helped me! You people have not given Private Pyle the proper motivation! So, from now on, whenever Aaron fucks up, I will not punish him, I will punish all of you! And the way I see it, ladies, you owe me for one jelly doughnut! Now, get on your faces!

HARTMAN:
(to PYLE)
Open your mouth!

He shoves the jelly doughnut into PYLE’s mouth.

HARTMAN:
They’re paying for it, you eat it!

HARTMAN turns to the
recruits.

HARTMAN:
Ready . . . exercise!

The platoon does push-ups.

RECRUITS (chanting in cadence):

One, two, three, four!
I love the Marine Corps!
One, two, three, four!
I love the Marine Corps!
One, two, three, four!

I love the Marine Corps!
One, two, three, four . . .

While the platoon does push-ups, PYLE swallows hard to get down bites of the doughnut.

Precision Reflex: Get a Grip on the Future

Precision Reflex offers Free-Floated Carbon Fiber forearm designed to work with most piston or op-rod systems out in the market today. Using their proprietary barrel nut and forearm system allows for a solid, ridged shooting experience with a forearm that reduces heat compared to standard aluminum forearms. They also make an interesting armorers kit.

Second Call Defense

Common Myths! Last week we talked about homeowners policies. Now Aaron, you had a situation recently where you wished you had SCD?

http://www.secondcalldefense.org/self-defense-protection/5-self-defense-myths

Self Defense Insurance

Very few insurance companies are willing to provide any kind of insurance for using a firearm, even if it is justifiable self defense. Those who claim to provide such insurance may promise to cover you after a shooting, but the reality may not match the promise. After an extensive study of available policies across the U.S., we have found that these policies …

  • May not pay anything until after an expensive trial and you are found not guilty.
  • May have low limits on payments, sometimes as low as $5,000 total (which may barely cover a lawyer’s retainer fee).
  • Offer no coverage for bail, so you may have to pay this yourself or spend considerable time in jail.
  • Offer no reimbursement for lost wages, so you may find it difficult to pay bills while you’re in court defending yourself.
  • May be a rider on another expensive policy you are forced to buy before you get any coverage.
  • May have language in the fine print that prevents any support at all because the underwriter has no experience with the realities of firearms or criminal defense law.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. Please consider joining Second Call Defense right now. For a limited time get your first month free, go to http://welikeshooting.com/scd today.

Tonight we are going to do We Like Shooting Theater sponsored by Manticore Arms. Where we re-enact movie scenes, our style. Tonight we will perform a scene from The Shining. Danny will be played by Nick, Wendy will be played by Jeremy, and Jack will be played by Lil.

WENDY:  Danny.  Danny, stop it.  Danny!

WENDY: shrieks

JACK:  Wendy, I’m home.

Jack:  Come out, come out, wherever you are!

JACK:  Knocks on the door

WENDY:  Danny, I can’t get out!

WENDY:  Run, run and hide.  Run, quick!

DANNY:  [sound of running away]

JACK:  Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in!

JACK (at Bathroom door):  Not by the hair on your chiny,

chin, chin.  Then I’ll huff, and

I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house in.

(He swings axe back.)

WENDY:  SCREAMS and screams again

WENDY:  Jack.  Please.  Don’t… Don’t…

WENDY:  Don’t!  Oh!  Please   more screaming

WENDY:  Stop!

WENDY:  Jack!  Stop it, Stop it!

Where will we, the firearms industry, be in 25 years?

Standera AR500 Steel Target – Initial impressions

Stats

The Standera shooting stand is laser cut from 1/4″ mild steel plate and comes with all hardware for assembly and for attaching targets except the 2x4s, which you can pick up at any hardware store.

The steel targets themselves are made from AR500 Armor Steel Targets laser cut and 3/8” thick.

Cost is about $74 for the stand or $144 for the stand + steel target. Plus whatever 2×4’s cost in your neck of the woods.

Initial Thoughts

We found the stand to be Durable. And the mounting hardware (bolts, chains, target) easy to set up.

Standera claims their design requires very minimal maintenance for you the shooter and we found this statement to be true, with the only maintenance we were required to do was to add a fresh coat of paint as desired.

The stand was very easy to assemble. The support chains are short in length and high above the target so while we tried it was difficult to hit them with an errant shot.

We also liked how the stand utilizes wooden 2x4s legs. They’re inexpensive, light and easy to replace they also create a stable tri-pod design with no digging of holes, no pounding poles into the ground.

More after we have had a few months to punish the system.

was in the Army, got out, got bored, started making kydex stuff, and now he’s  living the American dream. He also likes  guns and beer. Please welcome the owner of Red Leg Tactical, Joseph Baldwin!

Common Myths! Last week we talked about castle doctrine.

http://www.secondcalldefense.org/self-defense-protection/5-self-defense-myths

Homeowners Policies

One of the most widespread myths about self defense “coverage” is that your homeowners policy will protect you after you use a firearm for self defense. However, most homeowner liability policies contain a provision that excludes coverage for injury or damage intentionally caused by the insured. This is sometimes called the “intentional injury exclusion.”

A few policies include language for a “reasonable force” exception for “bodily injury resulting from the use of reasonable force to protect persons or property.” But this only protects you for “liability,” meaning damages in a civil case and apply only after you are acquitted or the charges are dismissed.

By law, none of these policies can provide immediate assistance for an attorney retainer, bond money, lost wages, criminal defense fees, and other potentially devastating expenses.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. Please consider joining Second Call Defense right now. For a limited time get your first month free, go to http://welikeshooting.com/scd today.

Shawn: Hello? Hello.

I’m lookin’ for my wife.

Wait. Okay…okay…okay.

If this is where it has to happen, then this is where it has to happen.

I’m not letting you get rid of me. How about that?

This used to be my specialty. You know, I was good in a video chat. They’d send me in there, and I’d do it alone. And now I just…

But tonight, our little project, our company had a very big night — a very, very big night. (Thanks Manticore Arms)

But it wasn’t complete, wasn’t nearly close to being in the same vicinity as complete, because I couldn’t share it with you.  I couldn’t hear your voice or laugh about it with you.  I miss my — I miss my wife.

We live in a cynical world, a cynical world, and we work in a business of tough competitors.

I love you. You — complete me.

And I just had —

Aaron: (Interrupts) [Say this Smiling through tears]:  Shut up. Just shut up.

You had me at hello.

Looking over your sights at a human shaped torso is as awkward as you might think. The first time I took the dummy to the range it had a T-shirt on and it was one of the oddest experiences I’ve had. I knew it was a target but my mind still made me falter every single time I took aim. I got past it but it’s important to note.

The rubber dummy target stand and dummy cost about $199.

What is this?

What is the rubber dummy? A target, a training tool, in our case a buddy and mascot… that we shoot… often. It’s the physical manifestation of the grief we give Aaron. When I say it like that, I feel really bad for Aaron. Moving on though, I’m over it.

Made from 100% recycled rubber, it’s a torso target that you can shoot during target shooting, tactical training, self defense training or any other kind of shooting you can think of. With a fresh coat of spray paint or primer, the holes pretty much disappear. When you hit it with a round, the paint/rubber mixture acts as a reactive target so you can easily see exactly where you hit.

It comes with a square steel base, a threaded pipe, a mount and the torso. You just screw the pipe into the base and mount and that’s it. From there, stand it up and you’ll have the mount with two steel prongs pointing vertically. These prongs fit easily into the base of the rubber dummy.

Stability

In all of the testing that we did, we never knocked it over. We even tried to blow it up and even then it just barely fell over. You can shoot the rubber dummy with any caliber that you desire, just understand that when shooting things like slugs, hollow points, etc. you will be removing material from the back. We’ve done it without hesitation or reservation and it is still in working order.

Durability

As mentioned we have purposely wrecked this thing by shooting anything and everything we had available. At one point, I just tried to shoot it in the neck over and over and was never able to decapitate it. We have shot thousands of round through it and it is still in completely usable.

So how does it handle a Dexter type owner? Just fine, we attempted to stab and slash it. Stabbing resulted in no real penetration to speak of and slashing just put lines in the paint. The base is not necessarily stable enough for knife attacks, but you can certainly brace it if desired.

Moving it around

Transporting it isn’t a big deal. I usually just removed the rubber part and transported it in 2 pieces. You could disassemble further to fit it into a car. Do take note that the base is a square piece of sheet metal and it will wreck your shins, your seats or anything else you bump the corners into.

What’s good?

It’s an excellent training tool. It’s stable, durable and I think the psychological factors involved with a target of this shape are very important to overcome for an individual that uses firearms for self defense. The price might seem high at first, but considering it’s still hanging in after a year makes it a good value.

What’s bad?

Not much, I’m nitpicking here. Originally it shipped with a threaded pipe that made the dummy too tall for one of the berms I shoot at. They quickly sent another pipe for the stand that made it around 5′ 9″. The square steel base corners are sharp and have drawn blood a couple of times. Again, reaching here, but it is something that left a mark (pun intended).

This is a special product that receives our highest recommendation. If you have the money and a place to shoot it, you can’t go wrong buying one.

If you use code WLS at rubberdummies.com they will give you 15% off your order.

Common Myths!

Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground

Legal principles put into place in recent years have made using lethal force easier to defend. But they do not remove the need to hire an attorney or give you a “get out jail free” card.

Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground provide a way for police and prosecutors to think about self defense that favors you, the defender, rather than your attacker. But no matter how justified you may be in using lethal force, the police will show up to investigate your use of a firearm. You can still face arrest and prosecution requiring a robust legal defense that can cost thousands of dollars.

Smokey: The hell you stealing boxes for? What you trying to build, a clubhouse?

Craig Jones: Hell, no, ain’t got me on tape. But they said they did. Fired me on the spot. Talkin’ about pressin’ charges.
