GLOCK Releases Two New MOS Pistols: Gen4 G17 & G19

Today, GLOCK, Inc., announced the release of two new pistols to join the Modular Optic System (MOS) series, the G17 Gen4 in MOS and the G19 Gen4 in MOS.

Now, two of GLOCK’s best selling pistols are available with milled slides designed specifically to be adaptable to multiple optic systems without costly customization. The G17 Gen4 MOS and G19 Gen4 MOS are the ideal addition to the series as the market continues to trend toward optic-ready everyday carry and defense.

G19 Gen4 MOS 45 (with optic)“We’re seeing more and more professional trainers recommend the use of optics for primary and defensive use,” stated Josh Dorsey, vice president at GLOCK. “Optic ready pistols will enable faster target acquisition when a reflex sight is mounted.”

Both pistols are chambered in .9mm and do not differ in specifications from their respective standard models. Other MOS pistols, introduced in January of 2015, are the G34 Gen4 MOS, G35 Gen4 MOS, G41 Gen4 MOS, and the G40 Gen4 MOS.  The new models were unveiled today at the Range Day for SHOT Show and will be on display at the GLOCK booth (#12254) throughout the week. The pistols will be available for purchase at retailers in the following weeks.

3 Ways to Supercharge Your Life this Year

With the coming of the new year, I applaud the flood of people in the gym who have goals of better fitness, losing weight, and improving their overall health. People just starting an exercise program who are willing to stick it out, will likely see faster and more obvious results than those of us who are years into our training life. I have been lifting close to 20 years. Adding 20 kg to my squat is going to be a lot harder than adding 20 kg to the max of someone who just started lifting. I am excited for them and hope their commitment to fitness this month will last a lifetime.

While the gym rush has obvious goals, obvious things they want to work on, where does that leave those of us who maintain a high level of fitness year round? Sure we all have performance goals regardless of our fitness level, but what are some ways we can give our training a boost besides just committing to work out more consistently? Here are three ideas to supercharge your performance this year.

JasonKneeling

#1 Train with Intent
Before beginning a workout, spend 3-5 minutes focusing intently on your goals. Why are you about to do what you are about to do? What are you training for? Maybe a race, maybe a cage fight, maybe selection… Whatever your objective, spend some time visualizing your goal, and processing what steps you need to take to get there. Why am I about to punish myself in the gym? Why am I doing this ridiculously challenging ruck? It is easy to enjoy winning, to enjoy achieving your goals; but being able to enjoy the journey, being able to enjoy the struggle that will ensure your success, is the key. When you have the mindset that allows you to relish the uncomfortable tasks ahead of you, it will be hard to keep you from meeting your goals. Knowing you are about to train harder than the competition, that you are willing to do what most others won’t, that each workout is another step towards certain success, can give you a huge mental edge and make your workouts infinitely more productive.

#2 Focus on Movement
Your body is a highly capable machine. It is designed to function as a unit, performing complex tasks through the synchronized, cooperative movement of hundreds of moving parts. If you are still doing chest and triceps on Monday, back and biceps on Tuesday, and legs and shoulders on Wednesday, you are missing the boat. Very few actions in real life require just your deltoids, just your hamstrings, or my favorite “the inner chest”. Seriously, I get asked by more people how to train their inner chest (where the pectoralis major attaches to the sternum), than how to run a faster 100 meter sprint. Isolation movements don’t really exist. Abducting one arm in a lateral raise doesn’t simply work the deltoid muscle of the working arm. The opposite obliques and transverse abdominus stabilize the core, the suprispinatus initiates the movement while the infraspinatus, subscapularis, and teres minor stabilize the head of the humerus in the glenoid fossa. The trapezius engages to elevate the scapula. Even beyond the muscular involvement, the fascia is a web of innervated contractile connective tissue that ties everything together to coordinate the systematic engagement of everything required to make any given movement.

If you are used to a typical bodybuilding style training split, try full body workouts for a few months. View your workout as a series of movements to train rather than individual muscles. Training hip extension is going to translate better to performing like a warrior than strengthening your hamstrings on the leg curl machine. Every week, address these MOVEMENTS at least twice a week:

Hip Dominant – Dead-lift variations, lunges, kettlebell swings

Knee Dominant – Squat variations, step-ups

Rotation/Resisting Rotation – Medicine ball chops, sledge hammer swings, kicks, punches

Horizontal Pull – Row variations, rock climbing

Horizontal Push – Push-up variations, bear crawls, bench press variations

Vertical Pull – Pull-up variations, rope and rock climbing, medicine ball chops and slams

Level Changes – Lunges, dead-lifts, squats, step-ups, burpees

You’ll notice many exercises fit in multiple categories. These exercises most realistically relate to the daily movements of the combat athlete. Use them frequently.

This year, focus on big, compound movements. Dead-lifts, squats, lunges, push-ups, and pull-ups are great examples; keep doing these for sure. But, for the sake of doing something new, flip some tires, swing a sledge hammer, push a car, carry heavy things for distance.

FoamRoll

#3 Make Recovery a Priority
If you are going to train harder than the competition, you need to spend adequate time on recovery. Too many very fit people train all-out all the time and give little thought to recovery. This works for a while, and better when you are young, but eventually it will catch up with you. It is not the workout that makes you stronger, not the workout that improves your endurance; rather, it is recovering from the workouts that take you a little bit past your abilities that brings you back stronger and better. When you are constantly stressing your body and your mind with rigorous workouts, you need something in your life to balance it out. Sleep is of utmost importance. Good nutrition is necessary. Massage is amazing. Ice baths, self myofascial release (foam rollers, lacrosse balls, etc), stretching, all are great tools that can help counteract the workouts that are breaking you down, and help progressively restore your body to create a new, stronger, faster, more durable you. Need a good place to start? Try foam rolling your legs and hips prior to your training session at least 3 times a week. Chances are, within a week you will feel better and within a month you’ll be breaking lower body strength plateaus. Train smarter and recover harder.

It is possible you are already doing all of these things. If so, keep it up, you are ahead of 90% of the people on the planet. If not, quickly incorporate ANY of these tips you are not currently using, it will have a huge impact on your training and performance. All the best in 2016!

Springfield Armory Releases The M1A Socom 16 CQB

Trusted for decades for its authoritative stopping power and reliability, the M1A platform is now optimized for close quarters defensive use. Springfield Armory is proud to announce the newest member of the M1A family, the Socom 16 CQB.

The Socom 16 CQB is not just a smaller and more maneuverable M1A; it’s been designed specifically to excel in close quarter applications. Nearly ten inches shorter than the M1A standard model, the CQB offers quick and easy handling for defensive use indoors or out.

The reduced size is the obvious part. What makes the Socom 16 CQB shine are the handling improvements. The all new adjustable buttstock is mounted on a standard AR-type receiver extension tube, so customers can choose from hundreds of compatible stock options to suit their specific mission requirements. The Socom 16 CQB features a new pistol grip that facilitates retention and control over the rifle with the firing hand. The grip itself is AK-rifle compatible, so it can easily be swapped with any standard aftermarket model. In short, the grip and control components are specifically designed to allow interoperability with the widest possible array of aftermarket options to suit specific customer needs.

“There’s never been a question about the effectiveness of the M1A platform for serious fight-stopping use,” observes Springfield Armory CEO Dennis Reese. “With the Socom 16 CQB, we wanted to really optimize the platform for indoor or field close quarters use.”

A close combat rifle requires customization when it comes to accessories like lights, lasers and optics. The Socom 16 CQB leverages the M-Lok compatible system for easy attachment of gear exactly where it’s needed. Two included three-slot rail segments can be mounted at the three and nine o’clock positions. A longer seven-slot rail at the six o’clock position is perfect for mounting a bipod or other accessories. On top and forward of the receiver, mounted on the barrel, is a medium eye relief seven-slot rail capable of mounting a scout optic should need dictate longer range shooting.

Since the Socom 16 CQB is a member of the M1A family, it accepts, all the same, magazines as other M1A models so users can choose from 5, 10, or 20-round magazines. A ten-round magazine is included with the CQB.

The Socom 16 CQB is ready for defensive use right out of the box. The XS Sights Tritium front sight post glows day or night when viewed through the adjustable rear aperture sight. Users who prefer optical sighting can choose a CQB factory model pre-configured with a Springfield Armory proprietary Vortex Venom Red Dot sight.

The new M1A Socom 16 CQB arrives packaged in a new custom ballistic nylon Springfield Armory “Tactical Gear” soft case complete with internal support straps, owners manual storage pocket, and pouches for up to three spare magazines.

Whether for home defense, law enforcement, or field use, users will appreciate the new Socom 16 CQB. It’s designed for maximum utility without any sacrifice of firepower.

 LIBERTY OR DEATH T-SHIRT

At the Virginia convention held May 1775, The Colony was divided into 16 districts and each district instructed to raise and discipline a battalion of men “to march at a minute’s notice.”

On July 17, 1775 a cadre of 350 men called the Culpeper Minute Men were organized under a large oak tree in “Clayton’s old field”

They adopted uniforms consisting of hunting shirts of strong, brown lines, dyed with an extract of the leaves of trees. On the breast of each shirt was worked in large white letters the words: “LIBERTY OR DEATH.”

Their flag had a rattlesnake with 13 rattles, coiled in the center, ready to strike. Underneath it were the words: “DON’T TREAD ON ME.” On either side were the words: “LIBERTY OR DEATH.” And at the top “THE CULPEPER MINUTE MEN.”

No sooner were they formed than the companies of Culpeper Minute Men were absorbed into regiments of the Continental Line, and by Act of Assembly in October 1776, they were dissolved and merged into the militia. Many went on to serve, and die in places like Valley Forge.

As with much of the art created in an era long before “cut-n-paste”, many versions exist. The snake and the text on the Magpul “Liberty or Death” T-shirt are  inspired from some of the more rare versions of this original artwork.

Defense Technology® has announced the release of the 40mm Tactical 4-Shot Launcher

ONTARIO, Calif. Defense Technology® has announced the release of the 40mm Tactical 4-Shot Launcher, and 40mm eXact iMpact® and Direct Impact™ Adjustable Range Rounds at the 2016 SHOT (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade) Show at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 19-22.

“These new additions to our product families further illustrate Defense Technology’s ongoing leadership in creating novel solutions to address tactical gaps in the market,” said Dave DuBay, Vice President, Less Lethal. “Defense Technology’s commitment to the men and women of the law enforcement, corrections and military communities has long been established with innovative products, coupled with superior training solutions. Domestically, Defense Technology has helped restore order in every major civil disturbance of the 20th century and has supported our troops from the second world war to today’s war on terrorism.”

Enhancing the family of launchers from Defense Technology, the 40mm Tactical 4-Shot Launcher, produced in collaboration with Lewis Machine & Tool, a precision gun manufacturer, provides an economical choice for the industry over traditional multi-launchers, while providing excellent tactical advantages. In addition to being the lightest weight tactical multi-launcher on the market, the Tactical 4-Shot is equipped with a quad rail and features an advanced pump action.

The 40mm eXact iMpact Adjustable Range Round and 40mm Direct Impact Adjustable Range Round have the ability to engage subjects from five feet to 70 meters to deliver the same energy throughout these distances, in a single round. Until now, this could only be accomplished through two independent munitions. The patented design allows velocity and kinetic energy to be adjusted for two design points for close-in and extended range engagements.  As tactical engagements are fluid in nature, the ability to transition from close to extended range in a single round, while providing point of aim, point of impact accuracy and energy is an industry first.

The 40mm Tactical 4-Shot Launcher (Model 1440) in a black anodized finish will be available in the second quarter this year with an MSRP of $1,899.00. The 40mm eXact iMpact Adjustable Range Round and 40mm Direct Impact Adjustable Range Round (Models 6325-A, 6320-A, 6322-A, 6323-A and 6326-A) available in the first quarter this year, will be offered  in the $29.00 to $35.50 MSRP range, depending upon payload.

The director of the 13 Hours: “We were just saying the facts.”

The director of the 13 Hours movie, director Michael Bay, was asked about alleged political connotations inserted into a film which tells the story of the 2012 Benghazi attacks. His stunning answer comes in just six words:

“We were just saying the facts.”

Michael Bay was hosted at the Fox News Channel on Tuesday night. After said that the movie had received praise from those on both sides of the political spectrum, his host Bill O’Reilly started questions session.

“You didn’t even mention Hillary Clinton in the movie, did you?” O’Reilly asked after contending criticism the film is political was “unfair.”

“No, we did not,” the director said. “We were just saying the facts.”

“Here’s the thing,” Bay added. “The politics got in the way of this great human story that happened. And this is really to honor these type of men who do this every day, who put themselves in harms way — that’s what this movie is about.”

His host O’Reilly pressed him further.

“OK, but it makes the Muslims fanatics look terrible, villainous, awful, savages. And a lot of people object to that, you know?” he said.

“Well, they attacked. They attacked,” Bay replied. “This is the way I was told. This was the way it was written by the five guys on the ground.”

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi recounts the true life events of six members of a security team who were sent to defend the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, after waves of terrorist attacks and siege which followed on September 11, 2012.

The overall story about Benghazi attacks was very painful for Americans and especially for the politicians, as the public opinion was that government reaction was awful. Some people going further, claiming that members of American diplomatic mission in Benghazi were literally betrayed, but still these are only speculations and rumors.
