The Mafteah Gets a Stock!

The IWI Mafteah has been making serious waves since its debut, and after spending some quality time with it, I’ve become a big fan. I can say it’s one of the most interesting “firearms” to hit the market in years. Named after the Key of Solomon, it really does feel like a master key for defensive problems.

The Mafteah was introduced months ago, but at SHOT 2026, we saw the premiere of a stock adapter to turn your firearm into a short-barreled shotgun.

The Ultimate SBS Conversion

This adapter is a game-changer because it allows the Mafteah to accept Mossberg 500/590 stocks. The Mossberg 500 series offers you a pile of different stock options.

Whether you want a traditional Magpul SGA stock or a classic wooden Mossberg set, this adapter makes it all possible. You can turn your 14-inch, semi-auto firearm into a shoulder-fired, compact, and capable defensive shotgun platform.

Let’s not pretend that factory short-barreled semi-auto shotguns are at all common. With the removal of the tax stamp cost, turning the Mafteah into an SBS seems like a natural move.

Inertia-Operated Design

The Mafteah isn’t your standard gas-operated or Benelli-style inertia gun. It uses a proprietary inertia-operated system in which the recoil spring encircles the magazine tube. This allows the gun to remain incredibly slim and trim, weighing in at just 5 pounds, 11 ounces.

The perks of this system are twofold:

Clean Running: Without a gas system, carbon fouling stays out of the receiver, and you don’t have a gas system to clean. You can run hundreds of rounds through this thing without it getting sluggish or requiring a deep clean.

Reduced Weight: By ditching heavy gas pistons and regulators, the Mafteah is lighter, better balanced, and more maneuverable.

Features and Ergonomics

The design is packed with features that I’ve grown to love:

You can swap the charging handle to the left side, which is huge for ergonomics. It allows you to run the bolt or clear malfunctions without breaking your firing grip.

The receiver is machined to accept Glock MOS plates. You don’t need a bulky Picatinny rail to mount a red dot; it sits low and tight to the bore for a perfect co-witness with the front bead.

The handguard is massive and features M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions for lights or lasers. It also includes an adjustable hand strap to help with a push/pull recoil mitigation technique.

Tactical Versatility

With a 5-round capacity with 2¾-inch shells and a 14-inch smoothbore barrel, the Mafteah is a beast in close quarters. It’s light, fast, and surprisingly easy to handle if you know how to use the push-pull method.

Birdshead grip firearms aren’t for everyone, so the ability to easily convert this into an SBS with an adapter makes it next level. The new Mossberg stock adapter makes it a versatile tool for home defense or professional use, and makes it even easier to control.
