Full Investment Loadout
Even with the costs involved we are still looking at home defense essentials. The difference is the ancillary equipment involved, it is all top shelf and the base carbine has been heavily modified to best fit its roll.
The SCAR mods are covered in depth at the review here.
Summarizing the system front to back.
The barrel is a 14.5″ with a BCM MOD1 comp for control and permanently attached for ATF compliance. PMM did the work on the barrel. An additional benefit in my locale makes this a pistol based on state law. With this barrel system I have a highly optimized balance of physical mobility, muzzle velocity, terminal ballistics window, and legal moditily complying with federal and state laws.
The SCAR has been upgraded internally with a Geissele Super SCAR trigger and externally with PMM upgrades converting the rail interface to M-LOK, adding QD sling points, and replacing the stock grip the a BCM MOD3 front and back.
The Surefire Scout M600 series have 600-1,500 lumen options with various candela output and throw patterns. The Surefires are the acknowledged leader in weapon mounted lights offering the most durable vetted options currently available. Systems like the OWL and Modlight are emerging but don’t have the long term performance data Surefire does.
ACOGs, to an even greater degree than the Surefire lights, have an established record of excellence as a combat sight beginning in 1987. I’m looking at several LPVO options for the future but the simple bomb proof nature of the ACOG continues to prove itself on users three decades later. It’s my most trusted all purpose sight.
This setup is far from inexpensive.
Summary of Systems
All three of the examples shown will accomplish the defensive carbine essentials. All light level target identification and all light target engagement. Within the critical defensive 50 meter envelope all three systems can meet a users needs.
There is assuredly expanded capabilities to the user as the ancillary equipment quality increases. The SCAR can do more, do it more easily, and more quickly than the ACE as shown here.
But the point is to build the system. The equipment in the system meeting your needs first and your desires second.
