Chiappa Firearms is starting 2026 with a bang. A magnum bang in the form of a new L-frame .44 Magnum revolver. The new frame and caliber offering is an expansion that brings the Rhino’s low-bore recoil characteristics to a larger, purpose-built magnum revolver.

The Rhino 60DS
The Rhino 60DS .44 Magnum follows the same lines as the earlier Rhino revolver, with a low bore access barrel firing from the bottom-most cylinder on the revolver. This reduces muzzle rise and straightens recoil impulse. The 60DS is just bigger to accommodate the larger, more powerful .44 Magnum cartridge.

The enlarged L-Frame isn’t just bigger, it also introduces updated ergonomics. That includes twin finger stops and a revised grip interface for improved leverage and repeatable hand placement. Even in the larger chambering, the 60DS frame maintains Chiappa’s characteristic balance between strength and weight. It uses a 7075-T6 aluminum frame paired with a steel barrel and breech shield.

The Rhino 60DS In Hand
It will be available in three finishes: Black, White Nickel, and Gold PVD. All three standard finishes share the same mechanical core and configuration. Each model has a 6-inch barrel with fixed fiber optic front sight and a fully adjustable rear.

It maintains the Rhino’s double/single-action system and has a six-round cylinder. Like previous generation Rhinos, the 60DS has a comprehensive safety suite, comprising a cylinder block, rotation lock, and hammer block.
The Rhino 60DS L-Frame weighs 2.92 lbs, measures 11 inches in overall length, and ships with Hogue rubber grips. Each revolver comes with Chiappa’s hard case and includes the standard owner’s kit and Rhino sticker.
MSRP: $1,745.00

With its low bore, helping reduce and make recoil manageable, I can see the .444 Magnum 60DS being a popular hunting pistol. I can also see it showing up as a great movie gun, especially in that gold PVD finish. Isn’t there a new James Bond movie being discussed? The prop guys need to check these out.
