If you spend a lot of time in the vast outdoors, odds are you wear a hat. Now, with the Wazoo Gear Cache Cap, you can carry some vital necessities stored safely within its multiple secret compartments. From comfort to sun protection, as well as versatility for gear carry, this cap offers much more than meets the eye.
The Wazoo Gear Cache Cap
Materials and Construction
I’ve found that nearly all parts of this cap were created for a purpose. The exterior portion of the cap is made from 100% ripstop cotton fabric that blends softness with a high level of durability. Its interior material is composed of 100% polyester.
The inside mesh provides breathable cooling, while the brilliant orange color offers signaling benefits if lost outdoors. The fabric also offers UPF 50 sun protection and blocks up to 98% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. The underside of the bill is also deliberately colored black to reduce glare under intensely sunny conditions.

Hidden Features
The Cache Cap’s claim to fame is its multiple pockets and compartments integrated into the design of the cap. I investigated all of its secret nooks and crannies and found substantial room for many small items.

The true test would be to fill these areas with gear AND still have a comfortable fit with the cap. Carrying multiple items but being prodded by a rigid item across your forehead and skull wouldn’t be a good thing.

Items to Carry
The Cache Cap is survival-centric, and as such can be loaded with small, practical emergency aids. These could include (with some of the same included in my own cap) a compact survival light, a mini blade, ferro rod for fire-starting, and tinder or signal cards. Truthfully, any small items could be secured within the cap.
Other options could be a compact fishing kit, a bit of cordage, lock picks, and even a universal handcuff key. Additionally, the Cached Cap is ideal for everyday use. Adding a twenty-dollar bill for emergencies, along with a spare house or car key, is also a wise choice. A credit card can also be housed within the cap when you want to go hands-free to an outdoor event.

Comfort and Fit
Usually, I put this category towards the beginning of my reviews, but it’s much more important to discuss fit and comfort after the cap is loaded with gear. As mentioned, gear carry is good, but not at the expense of the Cache Cap’s comfort.
I have to say with the utmost honesty, I couldn’t feel a thing that was hidden within the cap. All the items I put inside (the cards, light, ferro rod, knife, cash, and keys) fit into their respective pouches or sleeves perfectly. There were no friction points against my skin, nor any protrusions noticeable on the cap’s exterior surface.

As for security and stability of the gear, everything stayed Velcroed into place or fit ideally into the brim’s tight sleeves. Even after waving the cap forcibly around when it was off my head, nothing “escaped” and fell to the ground.

Always Being Prepared
The Cache Cap offers the best of two worlds. First, at the base level, it’s a protective piece of headgear. It repels dangerous UV light, keeps your skin breathable, and protects your eyes from the sun. Second, it acts as a secondary carrying pack that is both discreet and secure from prying eyes and fingers. No one will know what you are stocking, with those items literally lifesavers when bad scenarios come your way.
The Cache Cap (with patch attachment) retails for only $36.00. This is a great price for all the bells and whistles integrated inside. Could you survive without one? Possibly, but why would you ever take that risk?
