Having a clear political bias one way, especially the way of restriction instead of freedom, is no way to run an organization whose job is to regulate and objectively conduct the business of firearms. If you hate private ownership of firearms, if you have a strong and provably irrational opinion toward firearms, you cannot be a reliable regulator.
We shouldn’t put an anti-vaxxer, a militant vegan, or someone into ‘alternative healing’ only as head of the FDA either. But it is 2021, so anything is possible for those inclusivity points.
