We The People fundraising to celebrate significance of gun culture (VIDEO)

Photographer and Guns.com contributor Ben Philippi launched a fundraising effort for his project “We The People” this week.

“With “We The People” I want to show U.S. firearm owners for who we truly are: good, honest, responsible and hard-working citizens who own guns for all of the right reasons,” Philippi said on his Indiegogo page. “For too long the media has painted us in a negative light and I’m tired of it. There’s nothing wrong with owning a gun!”

For Philippi, the bulk of the work is already done. Over the past two years he’s made several trips across the U.S. photographing and interviewing gun owners of all sorts (check out the collection here). Within the next month, he plans to raise $50,000 to go towards producing and printing the final draft of his book “We The People” (check out a sample of the book).

On the fundraising page are numerous testimonials for the project from prominent figures like Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke, YouTuber Iraqveteran8888, “Soldier of Fortune” founder Lt. Col. Robert K. Brown, gun rights leader and Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb, and more.

“We The People” is Philippi’s second project covering gun culture. His first was his book “God, Guns & Guts,” which inspired the History Channel show “God, Guns & Automobiles” starring Mark Muller.

While his first work depicted the eccentric side of gun culture, “We The People” celebrates the diversity and cultural significance guns and gun rights have on American society.

The “We The People” project will award contributions ranging from $10 to $2,000. For more information, check out the Indiegogo page.
