While many hold the M4 carbine series, with its short lightweight barrel, is good for CQB only, it’s refreshing to see what can happen if you stretch the rifle’s legs out.
To answer that, Josh Mazzola and Henry Chan team up in the above test from 9-Hole Reviews, in which they take an FN M4A1 with military standard MA Tech back-up sights and try to get two hits on torso-sized targets out to 500 yards.
The ammo of choice is 62-grain 5.56x45mm Magtech. According to FN, the military/LE model of the rifle has a 14.5-inch barrel with a 1-in-7-inch RH twist while the semi-auto commercial variant uses a 16-inch barrel with the same twist to stay out of NFA territory.
The end results from 9-Hole are interesting.
