After writing this review I have decided to make this a 2 part review. The first is related to Primary Arms as a company to do business with and the second will be a full review of the actual scope I purchased.
Recently I have been looking to increase my rifle skills at Oakland County Sportsman’s Club. My cheap Barska red dot sight did fine when firing at 30-50 ft but I was not very good at the 25-50 yard range.
Choosing a site for a new shooter or a shooter not used to riffle shooting is a very daunting task. Scope prices range from very inexpensive $60 sights like my initial Barska red dot to several thousand dollars. One early piece of advice I was given was expect on spending as much if not more on your scope then you do on your rifle. Looking at the various websites and reading on popular boards like ar15.com it is easy to see that this is a very easy thing to do.
I was very relieved to find several posts speaking highly about Primary Arms Optics. Prices range from $199 to $229 and when you purchase an optics from them you are offered the ability to purchase mounts at a discounted price. After much debate, research, procrastination and anxiety I finally pulled the trigger on the second most popular model the Primary Arms 4-16X44 Illuminated Mil Dot Scope. I received no discount or special pricing on this offer and my review is 100% unbiased.
Let’s start with ordering. The site is simple and easy to use. I would have preferred more pictures especially when looking at the mounting options but the fact is an educated buyer will have no issue opening the site and finding what he or she needs. They do show you all the relevant items that you want to see when making such a purchase so my criticism here comes from my web development experience more than concerns as a buyer. At the time of purchase you re able to customize your order with additional caps for the glass , mounts and top cap mounts for red dot sights. They even offer discounts on non Primary Arms mounts if you prefer.
A quick glance at the 35 reviews averaging five star put me at ease. It was wonderful to see the varied responses from the customers that outlined why they liked it. Price measured against value was a very common reason and was what sold me on Primary Arms. During the order process either my internet connection or the site itself hung when adding an item to my cart. This glitch caused me to order a Tek mat twice. Since I am a dumb ass and did not verify my order before completing it I was charged for this mistake. This leads to my first interaction with customer service.
Customer service can either make or break a company in my opinion. There are many discount sites on the net that I will never use again (I am looking at you CTD and Botach Tactical) on the flip side there are a few sites that cost me a bit more to use that I am in love with like Ops Gear and now Primary Arms.
My initial email to PA explaining my mistake was answered in less then 1 hour. The response was sorry about that, here is your new invoice and you will get a credit on your card. WOW true service in a timely manner something you just don’t see enough of anymore. About 3 hours later I receive another email from PA with my tracking number and a notification my order shipped. This is directly from another email they sent me:
We are Always Available
E-mail us at any time. We will get back to you in 1 business day or less.
We Value Your Privacy
We promise to never sell or distribute your information to anyone.
Real Time Inventory
We don’t drop ship. If our site says it’s in stock, we have it here in our warehouse, ready to ship.
Most items are out the door in two business days or less. Our commitment to you the customer.
That is a lot to promise and it is even more surprising that in my case they actually under promised and over delivered.
Tracking numbers were sent to me the day I ordered the products. The items were delivered within the specified shipping time and were packaged nicely. Each item was exactly as described and shown on the site and came in perfect working order in mint condition. Instructions as well as tools for the mounting rings were also included.
In short the process was exactly what I had expected based on the reviews seen on AR15.com related to Primary Arms. They are an excellent company and for a service based around low cost solutions I was incredibly impressed with the care and effort they put into both their products and their customer service. Primary Arms are a quality company that I highly recommend to anyone looking for very well priced alternatives to Aimpoint or Eotech.
